The Legacy of ASALH
Founded in 1915 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, ASALH has anchored the preservation and celebration of Black history for more than a century. Woodson—the “Father of Black History”—understood that a people deprived of their historical contributions would struggle to find dignity and place in the world.
From creating Negro History Week in 1926 (the precursor to Black History Month) to sustaining national conversations today, ASALH’s mission has always been clear: make Black history a permanent and celebrated part of American identity.
Now, as the conference enters its 110th year, that legacy comes to Atlanta—a city whose cultural and historical energy continues to shape the future
Amplify Your Impact
Atlanta has always been a city of firsts, leaders, and legacy. At History ’N’ Pieces, we’re here to stand with you—ensuring history isn’t just remembered, but experienced and passed on.
